Boston Terrier Club Championship Show 2024

My thanks to the Boston Terrier Club of NSW for the invitation to judge your special championship show. Your first show back after quite some time. I was really looking forward to judging my third favourite breed and 2nd specialty and I enjoyed the day immensely.

The Committee did a wonderful job - trophies were beautiful and thanks to my steward Tammy Stephens for her assistance. I was blown away by the Club’s thoughtful gift and am wearing my Boston slippers as I write this.

I am not a breed specialist but a person with a genuine love of the breed and so as an enthusiast I write my thoughts.

I was very pleased with the breed overall. My CC dog and bitch line ups were very pleasing to me as I glanced along the line up. I was happy with my winners. The perfect dog has never been bred and I was unable to find one ….no one can….it is a matter of this and that and weighing it all up. No doubt others would do it differently.

I hope you don’t mind me saying that one thing that did stand out was feet…you may agree or disagree but I would have liked to see tighter feet on many dogs.

I did see beautiful balance, moderation, correct proportions and level toplines. Sometimes not on the one dog, but spread throughout the breed, as well as some super heads, gorgeous expressions and great temperaments. Some heads were more rounded and cheeky than square. Movement overall was mixed on out and backs but there was some lovely profile movement with good toplines.

Happy to say my winners excelled in so many of these virtues.

I think the breed is in very good shape, thanks to your caring breeders.

Thanks again for a lovely day

Baby Puppy

1 EXALTARE CROWN JEWEL

5 month old puppy….promising youngster, happy mover, holds topline well, masculine  head, would prefer less white in eyes, pleasant profile and proportions, moderate  without exaggeration, wide jaw muzzle good for age, would prefer tighter feet, but he is only a baby.

Minor Puppy

2 BOSTONWOOD FLY ME TO THE MOON

8 month old puppy. Pleasing head of good proportions for his age, lovely dark eye, balanced angles, could be tighter knit, room for this to happen as he matures, would prefer tighter feet; alert expression, moved smartly around the ring,

4 BOSTONWOOD LOVE ON TH ROCKS

8 month old, bright alert little man, rangier style, giving room to body up and mature with age, preferred head on the winner….pigment still to fill in. Carries himself well and happy to move around the ring.

Puppy Dog

6 CH TALBRA WHO SHOT THE BARMAN

Bright future for this young man as he matures. Already solid and well put together and compact, well balanced profile and angles, no exaggeration, good topline, square skull with balanced muzzle, excellent ear carriage. Moved around the ring with good attitude.

5 STRONGSTORM SERENITY NOW

Sturdy and compact young man showing a lot of promise. Very full of himself and shows himself off on the stack, nearly overdoes it and today this spoilt his topline for me. He could sort that out for the future, as he has so much to like….beautiful head and expression, moved smartly and confidently and quite a showman already.

Junior Dog

7 CH OZSTOCK MAY THE FORTH B WITH U - RES DOG CC

One that catches your eye. Overall a lovely dog. Strong, sturdy and compact. Head and body of correct proportions. Alert expression and round eye. Balanced angles, no exaggeration, correct topline, held on the move. Smart mover, once settled.

9 CH AXALTARE SUPERIOR ATTITUDE

Longer cast, but pleasant outline, lovely neck, with good balance to head. Would prefer darker eye. Bit proud of his tail, moved smartly, covered the ground well.

10 TENTAFIELD JUDGES CHOICE

Very compact and sturdy….smart little fellow, preferred the flowing lines of those in front.

Aust Bred

11 CH BOSTONLAKES TURBOCHARGED

Attractive dog, with a great attitude….lots to like about him. Well made with good head and body proportions. Balanced angles, dark eye presenting a lovely alert expression. Smart mover with good carriage, would have liked a bit more of him bodywise. He has the room to body up later on.

12 CH HYMERE A STAR IS BORN

5 yr old dog, solid and compact but more due to being on the chubby side which spoilt his profile picture making him appear short in leg. Preferred the head and balance of the dog in front.

Open Dog

14 CH STRONGSTORM ROCK N ROLLA - DOG CC, R/UP BIS

Very handsome dog, and a lovely one overall. Masculine yet still maintaining moderation. Solid, compact and sturdy. Good head and body proportions. No exaggeration. Super dog in so many respects…he has that quality that demands attention…..confident and smart mover.

13 CH OZSTOCK STRIKE IT RICH

A dog of high quality, lovely style. Pleasing overall. Preferred the head of the winner, prefer straighter front legs on a dog of his age, his topline was strong and he moved smartly.

Baby Bitch

16 BOSTONNIE MISS MINNIE ME

Pleasing profile and balance. Pretty girl, feminine, well balanced head for age, sweet expression, good topline, moved smartly around the ring.

17 CROWNE WISH ID MET YOU SOONER

5 months old, another with pleasing profile, a little longer in loin to the one in front, nice angles fore and aft, pretty feminine head, but I preferred the overall head of the winner.

15 BOSTONIE MISS MILLIE

Strong style of puppy. Maybe gave this impression due to being a little overweight. Had a pleasant shape, good topline and moved around quite nicely. Pleasing head, nice round eyes, although showing white

Minor Bitch

18 RUBYSTUD POSY OF FERNS

Lovely puppy….pretty girl….excellent type, compact, well balanced, moderate and no exaggeration…square outline, head of good proportions with alert kind expression, small compact feet, settled on the move eventually to win the class.

19 TALBRA THE MILKMANS DAUGHTER

Another quality puppy of excellent type. Compact, and well balanced, square outline, also moderate with no exaggeration…pleasing head of good proportions. Level topline. Difficult decision between these two who could change places on any day. Will look forward to following their future.

21 SHEBOS SHAKE IT UP BABY

At a rangier stage of development and needs time to mature but on this day, preferred the outline, balance and proportions of those in front.

Puppy Bitch

23 OZSTOCK SOMEBODY TO LOVE

Beautiful puppy, eye catching..excellent type….so much to like about her - loved her head and expression, ears, proportions and balance. Needs to strengthen a little behind when moving, which I am sure she will as she is well put together.

Int Bitch

25 CH TALBRA THATS WHAT SHE SAID (AI) RES CC

A lovely quality bitch. Excellent type, beautiful head, expression and balance all over. Moderate with no exaggeration. Good topline…Moved well and really pushed the CC winner…

24 CH BELLEDEJOUR MARLEY (AI) IMP NZ

A larger girl, her body and head in balance with her stronger style. Overall a lot to like about her. Moved well around the ring.

26 CH ZAREBA COVER GIRL

Another nice bitch of excellent type and balance. Pleasing profile, compact, balanced head,…let herself down on the move at the end.

33 CH OZSTOCK IMA SITCOM

Super bitch….excellent shape and proportions, compact and sturdy, feminine head of correct balance to skull, balanced angles fore and aft with no exaggeration, smooth flow from head to tail, level topline, held on the move. Moved out around the ring giving her all….BITCH CC AND BEST IN SHOW

32 CH BOSTONLAKES PEACHES FOR ME

Classy bitch. A lot to like about her proportions, balance and head.

34 BOSTONWOOD CANDLE IN THE WIND

Bit long and low, prefer the balance, heads and expression of those in front…tough competition to come up against.

Neuter In Show

36 CH NEUT CH ZAREBA ON BROADWAY

RUP Neuter In Show

35 CH NEUT CH TIPLAND EYE OF TH TIGER

Both were worthy Bostons of very good breed type, my preference went to the bitch today, who put it together a little bit better on the move.
